Flies are a nuisance around the home, especially in large numbers. Some species are capable of transmitting diseases such as Salmonella, Dysentery, Tuberculosis, Cholera and Parasitic Worms. Mosquitoes can also be an issue, with their bites in particular being painful and causing distress.
Moths don’t pose a health risk, but nevertheless are capable of causing severe damage to natural fibres in clothes, carpets, fabrics, furs and even leather. Serious damage can be caused when moth larvae eat the protein ‘keratin’ which is in natural materials such as wools, cottons and silks.
Although most UK species of mosquito are harmless, they are a nuisance and their biting can irritate. If you are suffering from this pest give us a ring to arrange a free quote.
Carpet beetles resemble a ladybird in size and shape with their colour being their most distinguishing feature. They are often black and brown but have been seen with yellow and white markings. Towards late summer carpet beetles are likely to enter your home and lay up to 40 eggs at a time in any natural fibres including curtains and carpets.
High levels of hygiene, deep cleaning and the use of DIY bedbug spray products will help to reduce numbers of Bed Bugs, however professional treatment is needed to eliminate an infestation.
Cockroaches are nocturnal, hiding in cracks and crevices during the day. There are signs you can check for if you believe you have a cockroach problem such as droppings, smear marks and shed skins. Cockroaches are omnivorous, eating just about anything from food stuffs, paper, leather, books, packaging, fabrics and plastics to animal matter such as hamster and rabbit droppings. If you believe you have an infestation, please give us a ring to arrange your free quote and to discuss your pest problem.
Commonly seen as beneficial in the garden, Woodlice can also invade homes en-masse in search of moisture. They are not considered a serious household pest as they do not spread disease and do not damage wood or structures.
These insect pests are nocturnal, coming out at night to search for food and hiding in crevices during the day. You can still find visible signs of their activity, look-out for: small holes in wallpaper (sometimes with yellow stains), damage to clothes and fabrics with synthetic fibres and discoloration and damage to pages within books and covers.
Booklice are small, yellow or grey, soft bodied insects measuring between 1-6mm in length. They do not like the light, preferring to live in dark humid places such as the folds of packaging in food cupboards.
Fleas are not thought to transmit any serious illness to humans, but their bites can cause severe irritation. If you think you have a flea infestation call us to arrange your free quote and to discuss your pest problem.
