Property Maintenance

Most domestic pests such as ants, other crawling insects and rodents come indoors seeking food, water and shelter.

It is a good idea to check the building for any entry points which could be used by invading pests.

Things like cracks, holes in the walls, poorly sealed vents, loose skirting boards, or ill-fitting plumbing are typical entry points for pests.

Doors and windows should fit snugly, otherwise insects could squeeze through the gaps.

Good Housekeeping

Preventing access to a food source also helps keep pests at bay.

Make sure you store food in airtight containers, tight-lidded tins, or glass jars with rubber sealed lids so no pests will be attracted to it.

Make sure your fridge door fits tightly (this also saves energy) and keep the inside clean.

Avoid leaving left-over food or drink laying around for any length of time and keep countertops and appliances clean and free of crumbs and spillages.

Recycling bins can attract pests just as much as general rubbish bins if they are not kept clean and the contents washed before being put into the recycle bin.
